A cluster study is how a grid operator studies a batch of interconnection requests together instead of one at a time. Every project that applies in the same window is modeled as a group, the grid upgrades the group needs are identified at once, and the cost of those upgrades is shared among the projects that cause them.

On paper, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has the fastest interconnection timeline in 2026. Its new Consolidated Planning Process targets a signed generator interconnection agreement 180 days after the queue window closes.

To check power pricing and grid congestion for a solar or wind site, pull the historical locational marginal price (LMP) at the pricing node (P-node) where the project would inject power, split it into its energy, congestion, and loss components, and compare it with the nearest trading hub. Then measure how often that node clears at negative prices, check curtailment history in the surrounding zone, and pair the price view with substation capacity and interconnection queue da
